When I moved to Melrose Ave in Hollywood in November 2002, I was driven by dreams of making it as a lead vocalist and producer after years of fronting bands and working on my solo projects in the Bay Area. I packed up all my belongings into a U-Haul and drove my ’92 black El Dorado Cadillac to LA, ready to give everything I had.
But just a month later, everything seemed to come crashing down. On January 1, 2003, after a series of tough incidents between December 25, 2002, and January 2, 2003—what I now think of as a 1-2-3 punch—I hit rock bottom. It was during this challenging time that I turned to creativity as a way to cope. I fired up Photoshop and designed my first T-shirt, inspired by the pain I was experiencing. With some iron-on transfer paper from Staples, I printed the design onto one of my favorite black sleeveless tees.
Now, as I was recently inspired (#ItAllComesAround when meant to #AllForAReason) to relaunch SterlingsWear.com and bring my first tee design back, I’m excited to share all of my original designs and more from my collections spanning 2003 to 2013. This site represents not just the evolution of my fashion creations but also the journey that led me here, and I’ve never been more grateful for it ALL.
